€44m for Health Services in Dublin Mid West – Curran Adamstown, Clondalkin, St. Lomans, Peamount Hospital and Stewarts Hospital are all to benefit from the announcement of a massive windfall in funding for Health services in Dublin Mid West, according to Local Fianna Fail TD John Curran. ‘In particular I welcome the focus that has been put on developing new primary, community and continuing care services in the area. Tackling the issue of primary care in our community will go along way in dealing with the A&E crisis that is in our hospitals at the moment. ‘Both Adamstown and Clondalkin are to get new purpose built Care Centres with a full range of Design Primary Care services, including GPs counselling, nursing, pharmacy and family therapy services. ‘St. Lomans is to be completely redeveloped and upgraded, along with Peamount Hospital and Stewarts Hospital receiving funding to develop and extend their services. ‘The total funding allocation for Dublin Mid West is almost €44 million this is one of the largest funding allocations in Dublin and it is our communities that will benefit. ‘Not only will these new services provide excellent state of the art health services, but the newly built primary care centres will also provide new jobs for the area. ‘I am delighted with this announcement for Clondalkin, Adamstown and the existing hospitals in the area that are set for extra funding. The capital funding allocated by the HSE is a total of €555 million and Dublin Mid West has been prioritised in Dublin. ‘These projects are major priorities for me as a public representative. I want to see progress on all of them in the shortest possible timeframe. The Government, through the HSE, has now committed almost €44 million to Dublin Mid West. It is a huge sum that will have far-reaching and very positive implications for people in the constituency for years to come. ‘It is vital that we provide the best possible health service to the community. We are aiming to meet the needs of people on their own doorsteps. In that, I believe we are succeeding,’ said Deputy Curran. Press Release Up to 35,000 families nationwide unaware of Family Income Supplement – CurranUp to 35,000 families nationwide are unaware of their entitlements to claim the Family Income Supplement (FIS), according to Local Fianna Fail TD John Curran. ‘As a member of the public accounts committee I learnt this week that almost 35,000 families nation wide who are entitled to the Family Income Supplement are not claiming for it. A public awareness campaign must be done sooner rather than later in order to ensure people know their entitlements. ‘Out of this 35,000 families nationwide an estimated 1,000 families are in the Dublin Mid West area, including Clondalkin and Lucan. Every possible effort must be made to ensure that every single family in the State that is entitled to FIS receives this weekly income top-up. ‘The Family Income Supplement provides direct cash supports for workers on low incomes with families and the new increased income limits announced in Budget 2006 means that is now easier for families to apply. ‘A large number of families in Clondalkin, Palmerstown and Lucan who are experiencing financial strain may well be entitled to Family Income Support and not know it, particularly under the greatly expanded thresholds. I am urging people to seek more information and to check out their entitlements’, concluded John Curran TD.
Press Release K Club Ryder Cup goes green – Curran The Ryder Cup in the K Club is going to be the most environmentally friendly golf event ever, according to Local Fianna Fail TD John Curran. ‘I have learnt from the Minister for the Environment, Dick Roche that the Race Against Waste team have been working closely with The European Tour organisers on the Ryder Cup to ensure that waste produced at the K Club will be reduced, reused and recycled. ‘Up to 45,000 people a day are expected to attend the 38th Ryder Cup and measures are in place to encourage maximum recycling and minimum waste. Initiatives will include extensive recycling facilities in the tented village and out on the course. This is in keeping with the national waste policy. ‘A poster campaign will target visitors traveling to the event on buses and an environmental brochure is also being produced. This brochure will provide other wildlife and landscape information to spectators and visitors as they move around the course, said John Curran TD. Press Release Slí na Sláinte for Cuthberts Park, Clondalkin – Curran South Dublin County Council contacted the Irish Heart Foundation and a decision was made to develop a Slí na Sláinte route in Cuthberts Park, Clondalkin, according to Local Fianna Fail TD John Curran. ‘The decision came about in an effort to improve the security of Cuthberts Park. A meeting was held with representatives of the Housing Department’s Estate Management Section, Parks Department and the Dolcain Project. ‘The council is also considering the idea of providing assistance to local groups who are interested in progressing sporting activities in the park.” ‘I am urging the council to provide whatever measures they see fit to improve the security of this park. Residents who live close to Cuthberts Park deserve a safe and secure park in their area to enjoy. ‘Official opening of the Slí na Sláinte route is on the 25th May 2006, I hope that more people will use the new route and make use of the park so that the council priorities continued upgrades at Cuthberts Park. ‘The council have also ensured me that they are liaising more effectively with the local Gardaí and local groups in an effort to tackle the continuing Anti Social Behaviour in the Park,’ concluded John Curran TD.
