Sunday 11th of February, 2001,  saw local Man Fergal O'Brien, just miss out on becoming the First Irish man to win the title, since Denis Taylor in 1987.  His opponent Paul Hunter (England), took the title in the tense and thrilling last frame.  
The next opportunity to see Fergal in action will be on 21st April at the World Championships.  Congratulations from the people of Lucan on your achievement, 
maybe you will win it next time!!!
